Niseko United. Four bases, one mountain.

Japanese powder, refined hotels and villages with distinct personalities. A guide to choosing your base and planning the skiing.

Colorado curation

Four resort areas share Mount Niseko Annupuri. Staying in Hirafu, Hanazono, Niseko Village or Annupuri shapes the entire trip.

Colorado's view

Powder, hotels and village life

Niseko is an excellent first Japanese ski trip: four resorts share the mountain, international travellers find useful services, and accommodation ranges from full-service hotels to private residences.

The base makes the biggest difference. Hirafu has the most restaurants and evening life; Hanazono feels quieter and offers refined hotels; Niseko Village is resort-led; Annupuri is calmer. On-snow links depend on weather and operations, so plan transfers between bases as well.

The mountain

A mountain for your pace.

  • Grand Hirafu. The largest village and service hub. Varied terrain and an easy base for skiing and dining outside the hotel.
  • Hanazono. Slopes, lessons and a contemporary atmosphere. Suits families and guests seeking upscale hotels in a quieter base.
  • Niseko Village. Wooded terrain with large hotels and residences. A stay more centred around the resort itself.
  • Annupuri. The most understated base, with a relaxed pace, onsens and slopes for travellers who want an unhurried stay.

Runs and terrain

61 reference runs across the four resorts.

The 61-run reference comes from OnTheSnow; Niseko United publishes maps and details for each of the four areas separately. There is no unified colour breakdown. Open runs and links between areas depend on conditions.

Getting there and going further

A journey beyond the snow.

Access. Fly into New Chitose (CTS) near Sapporo, then transfer by road; allow for winter weather and flight schedules.

Combine with. Otaru and Sapporo pair naturally with Hokkaido. On a longer journey, Tokyo and Kyoto add the cultural contrast.
