United States · California and Nevada · Lake Tahoe

Heavenly. Two states, endless views.

A complete Heavenly guide: 4,800 acres, mountain sectors, Heavenly Village, selected hotels and access via Reno.

Colorado curation

Heavenly crosses California and Nevada above Lake Tahoe. Long groomers, glades, expert terrain and a lively South Lake Tahoe base create a complete journey on and beyond the snow.

The Colorado perspective

Ski two states.
Look across Tahoe.

Heavenly turns Lake Tahoe into part of every ski day. The resort crosses California and Nevada, combining long groomers, wooded terrain, technical canyons and one of the most recognisable panoramas in North American skiing.

Its greatest planning advantage is also its challenge: several bases and a broad mountain. Choosing between the village, California Lodge and Stagecoach determines the rhythm of the entire stay.

How the mountain works

Multiple gateways.
Two states.

01

The scenic introduction

Gondola & Tamarack

The gondola rises from Heavenly Village to the upper mountain. It is the most striking arrival and a practical meeting point, but the day normally ends with a gondola download rather than a ski trail into the village.

02

Lake views and long groomers

Sky, Canyon & Ridge Run

This California-side core delivers Heavenly’s signature panorama, confident intermediate skiing and access across the upper mountain.

03

Vertical and advanced character

California Lodge & Gunbarrel

A mountain-first base beneath sustained fall-line terrain. Gunbarrel and the surrounding zones reward strong skiers when coverage and conditions align.

04

Open mileage and quieter rhythm

Stagecoach, Dipper & Nevada

Long groomers, glades and a calmer eastern base make the Nevada side especially appealing for intermediates and travellers staying nearby.

05

Expert terrain

Mott & Killebrew Canyons

Steep, natural terrain defines Heavenly’s technical edge. Openings depend on snow, visibility, wind and avalanche work.

The signature experience

A mountain
framed by water.

Ridge Run and the California-side viewpoints are central to Heavenly’s identity. For the best visibility and photography, plan them for a clear morning rather than leaving them to chance.

Where to stay

Choose the rhythm
before the hotel.

01

Best for a complete stay

Heavenly Village & Stateline

Gondola, restaurants, shops and entertainment are walkable. It is the strongest choice for mixed groups and travellers who value evenings as much as ski convenience.

02

Mountain-first

California Lodge

A direct start on the California side and useful access to the resort’s vertical, accepting a quieter, less walkable base.

03

Quiet and residential

Stagecoach & Nevada

An efficient option for the eastern side, with more privacy and less village life. A car or planned shuttle is usually important.

Heavenly Village

Mountain days.
South Shore nights.

More than 40 shops and eateries, the gondola, ice rink and the entertainment of Stateline create one of Tahoe’s most complete bases for mixed groups.

The region’s landmark luxury resort, set on the lake with spa, golf-course scenery and a polished sense of place near Heavenly Village.

02

The Landing Lake Tahoe Resort & Spa

An intimate lakefront address with spa and restaurant, suited to travellers who prefer boutique scale and easy access to the village.

03

Desolation Hotel · South Lake Tahoe

A contemporary boutique stay with spacious suites, a quieter atmosphere and strong access to the town’s independent dining.

04

Marriott Grand Residence Club · Heavenly Village

Residence-style convenience immediately beside the gondola, shops and restaurants — particularly practical for families.

05

Marriott’s Timber Lodge · Heavenly Village

A central, apartment-style option that makes the gondola and the village routine exceptionally simple.

06

Margaritaville Resort Lake Tahoe · Stateline

All-suite accommodation close to Heavenly Village, useful for groups that prioritise space and an active South Shore base.

Access and winter logistics

Reno first.
Weather always.

Reno–Tahoe International is the natural gateway. Heavenly estimates around 1 hour 5 minutes to the village in normal traffic, but snow, chain controls and weekend congestion require margin. The access plan should match the chosen base.

Practical questions

Before skiing
across the state line.

Can you ski between California and Nevada?+

Yes, through the upper-mountain lift and trail network when connecting lifts are operating. Wind and weather can interrupt the crossing, so check status before committing to the other side.

Is Heavenly good for beginners?+

Yes. Fifteen percent of terrain is classified beginner and the resort has learning zones. Because the mountain is spread across several access points, lessons and meeting places should be planned carefully.

Can I ski back to Heavenly Village?+

No marked ski trail returns to the gondola base. Skiers normally download on the gondola, so allow time and monitor its closing and wind status.

Which base is best?+

Heavenly Village is the most complete for dining, shops, non-skiers and gondola access. California Lodge and Stagecoach favour a more direct, mountain-led routine.

Which airport should I use?+

Reno–Tahoe International is the natural gateway. Heavenly quotes roughly 1 hour 5 minutes to the village in normal conditions; winter weather and chain controls can add significant time.

Is Heavenly on Epic Pass?+

Yes. The applicable Epic product, access dates, restrictions and any reservation rules should be reconfirmed for the travel season.

Personally experienced · Colorado expertise

Fabrício's perspective.

Colorado Experience — Snow since 2012

Heavenly is among the Lake Tahoe mountains I know personally. The key is choosing the base around the daily rhythm: Heavenly Village for gondola access, restaurants, shops and non-skier activities; California Lodge or Stagecoach for a more direct start on the mountain.
