Serre Chevalier. Four bases, one great mountain.

A complete Serre Chevalier guide: 250 km of pistes, Briançon, Chantemerle, Villeneuve, Le Monêtier, thermal baths, access and selected hotels.

Colorado curation

Serre Chevalier combines high mountain, long larch-forest pistes and four bases with very different personalities. Colorado matches the village, hotel and logistics to each traveller.

01

Who it suits

Families, mixed groups, intermediates and skiers who value variety and genuine villages.

02

The mountain

250 km, 82 runs, 58 lifts and 80% of the terrain above 1,800 metres.

03

The bases

Briançon, Chantemerle, Villeneuve and Le Monêtier create four distinct experiences.

The Colorado perspective

Four bases.
One great
mountain.

Serre Chevalier connects Briançon and three Alpine villages across 250 kilometres of pistes, combining high mountain, long woodland descents and genuine valley life.

It is less about a single resort centre and more about choosing the right base: history in Briançon, convenience in Chantemerle or Villeneuve, and thermal-wellness atmosphere in Le Monêtier.

Personally experienced · Colorado expertise

Fabrício's perspective.

Colorado Experience — Snow since 2012

I value Serre Chevalier because it is not limited to exposed high-altitude pistes: its long larch-forest sectors protect visibility and give the mountain real character. Villeneuve or Chantemerle simplify skiing for families and mixed groups; Monêtier adds village life, thermal baths and a calmer pace.

Choosing the base

Four starting points.
Four different
journeys.

The villages are linked on skis and by valley transport, but accommodation location determines lessons, morning lift access, restaurants and evening rhythm.

The four bases

Choose the village.
Define the rhythm.

01

Briançon

A genuine town with Vauban fortifications listed by UNESCO. The Prorel gondola gives direct mountain access; ideal for history, restaurants and a broader urban routine.

02

Chantemerle · Saint-Chaffrey

One of the most practical all-round bases, with efficient lift access, shops, ski schools and a good balance for families and mixed groups.

03

Villeneuve · La Salle-les-Alpes

Central, lively and highly convenient for skiing. A strong choice for travellers who want quick access to several sectors and more evening options.

04

Le Monêtier-les-Bains

The most traditional and peaceful base, with high-altitude access, a mountain-village atmosphere and the natural thermal waters of Les Grands Bains.

a fortified
Alpine town.

Briançon gives Serre Chevalier unusual depth: Vauban heritage, a genuine town centre and direct access through the Prorel gondola. It works particularly well when skiing is only one part of the journey.

Colorado hotel selection

A small, design-led hotel with mountain views, restaurant and the most authentic village setting in the valley.

Practical questions

Before choosing
your base.

Which base should I choose?+

Chantemerle is the most balanced, Villeneuve is efficient and lively, Briançon adds history and urban life, while Monêtier offers authenticity, thermal baths and a calmer pace.

Is Serre Chevalier suitable for families?+

Yes. The area has extensive green and blue terrain, woodland pistes, ski schools and practical village infrastructure. The exact accommodation position still matters.

Is the snow reliable?+

Eighty per cent of the pistes lie above 1,800 metres and snowmaking supports key sectors. The larch forests are especially valuable for visibility during snowfall.

How do I get there?+

Turin is often the most efficient international airport. Oulx railway station in Italy is a useful transfer gateway; Lyon, Geneva and Marseille are alternatives depending on flights and itinerary.

How long should I stay?+

Seven nights allow time to explore all four bases, enjoy Briançon and reserve an afternoon or evening for the thermal baths in Monêtier.
