Valmorel. An authentic village, a mountain for everyone.

A complete Valmorel guide: 165 km in the Grand Domaine, village sectors, family profile, Club Med, accommodation and access via Moûtiers.

Colorado curation

Valmorel combines pedestrian streets, traditional architecture and progressive terrain linked to Doucy and Saint-François-Longchamp. Colorado matches the sector and accommodation to each family.

01

Who it suits

Families, beginners, intermediates and groups who value a pedestrian village.

02

The mountain

165 km in the Grand Domaine, from 1,250 to 2,550 metres.

03

The Colorado perspective

A real village.
A gentle
mountain rhythm.

Valmorel was designed around stone, wood, slate roofs and pedestrian streets rather than large blocks. The result is one of the most welcoming purpose-built villages in the French Alps.

On the mountain, the 165 km Grand Domaine links Valmorel, Doucy, Celliers and Saint-François-Longchamp with a particularly strong profile for families and intermediate skiers.

Colorado Experience — Snow since 2012

Valmorel is one of the easiest mountains I know for families: the pedestrian village simplifies daily life, woodland pistes help in low visibility and the progressive terrain works very well for children and intermediates. Choosing between Centre, Mottet and Club Med substantially changes the experience.

Choosing the base

Village life
or pure
ski access.

Valmorel is spread across pedestrian neighbourhoods linked by lifts and paths. Centre, Crève-Cœur and Mottet deliver noticeably different mornings and evenings, so the accommodation map matters.

Where to stay

Each sector creates
a different journey.

01

Valmorel Centre · Bourg

The pedestrian heart of the resort, with shops, restaurants, ski schools and the Télébourg. Best for travellers who value village atmosphere and easy evenings.

02

Crève-Cœur

A practical, quieter residential sector with direct piste access and useful family accommodation above the centre.

03

Mottet

The highest and most ski-focused base. Excellent for ski-in/ski-out convenience and fast morning access, but with fewer evening options.

04

Doucy

Sunny, family-oriented and lower in altitude. A calmer alternative with broad views and access to the Grand Domaine.

05

Saint-François-Longchamp

The other side of the Grand Domaine, with a more open high-mountain feel and a different village rhythm. Better treated as an alternative base than a daily commute.

A village made for walking

Stone, wood
and snow
at the door.

The pedestrian Bourg concentrates shops, cafés and restaurants behind traditional façades. This intimacy is one of Valmorel's strongest advantages for families and for travellers who do not want to depend on a car.

Access strategy

Train to Moûtiers.
Transfer to
the village.

Moûtiers is the most useful railway gateway. Chambéry is the nearest airport; Geneva and Lyon usually offer more international flight options. Private transfer is especially valuable with children and ski luggage.

Practical questions

Before choosing
your accommodation.

Is Valmorel good for families?+

Yes. Gentle tree-lined terrain, beginner areas, pedestrian streets, ski schools and family accommodation make it one of the most straightforward French resorts for children.

Should I buy the 95 km or 165 km pass?+

Beginners and families staying close to Valmorel may be well served by the local 95 km pass. Confident intermediates should value the full Grand Domaine connection.

Where should I stay?+

Centre offers the best village life; Mottet prioritises ski-in/ski-out; Crève-Cœur balances calm and access; Club Med simplifies the complete family journey.

How do I get there?+

Chambéry is the closest airport. Geneva and Lyon offer broader international connections. Moûtiers is the most useful railway gateway, followed by a private or shared transfer.

How long should I stay?+

Seven nights are ideal for families and for exploring both sides of the Grand Domaine without rushing the connection.
