France · Alpe d’Huez

Sunshine, altitude and a complete mountain.

A complete Alpe d’Huez guide: 250 km of slopes, five connected bases, access and selected 3-, 4- and 5-star hotels.

Colorado curation

Alpe d’Huez combines terrain for every level, a high point at 3,330 metres and neighbourhoods with very different daily rhythms. Colorado matches the location, hotel and logistics to every traveller.

01

02

The mountain

Centre, Bergers, Éclose, Cognet, Rond-Point and connected villages offer distinct experiences.

The Colorado perspective

Sunshine.
Altitude.
A complete mountain.

Alpe d’Huez combines a sunny plateau at 1,860 metres with 250 km of varied terrain rising to Pic Blanc at 3,330 metres. Its scale works particularly well for families and groups with different abilities.

Choosing well means understanding the resort's spread-out neighbourhoods: Centre, Bergers, Éclose, Cognet and Rond-Point offer different access, atmosphere and daily routines.

The mountain

From gentle slopes to Pic Blanc.

  • 250 km, 109 runs and 67 lifts across five connected resorts.
  • Wide progression areas close to the village for beginners and families.
  • Long intermediate itineraries towards Oz, Vaujany, Auris and Villard-Reculas.
  • Pic Blanc, Tunnel and the 16 km Sarenne for confident, experienced skiers.

Choosing a base

One resort.
Many daily
routines.

A map can be misleading in this sloping, spread-out resort. Lift, lesson meeting point, shops and evening plans should be considered together before choosing a hotel.

Where to stay

Choose the access.
Then the hotel.

01

Centre & Vieil Alpe

Best for village life, restaurants, shops and après-ski. Access is spread across several lifts, so the exact hotel position matters.

02

Bergers

Highly practical for families, lessons and direct slope access. It has its own shopping centre, equipment shops and a quieter evening rhythm.

03

Éclose

Modern, calmer and well connected by the Alpe Express gondola. A strong choice for newer residences and the Daria-I Nor.

04

Cognet & Rond-Point

Excellent access to the upper mountain and several ski-in/ski-out addresses. Rond-Point is livelier; Cognet balances centre and slopes.

05

Vaujany, Oz 3300 & Villard-Reculas

Alternative villages connected to the same domain. They offer more Alpine character and calm, but a different rhythm from staying in Alpe d’Huez itself.

Practical questions

Before choosing
your hotel.

Is Alpe d’Huez good for beginners?+

Yes. The resort has broad learning zones and progressive terrain near the village. The lesson meeting point should still guide the hotel choice.

Who is the mountain best for?+

It works exceptionally well for mixed groups: beginners have dedicated areas, intermediates find long cruising pistes and experts can tackle Pic Blanc, Tunnel and Sarenne.

How many nights should I stay?+

Seven nights are ideal for exploring all five connected bases. Four or five nights work for a focused stay with a conveniently positioned hotel.

How do I get there?+

Grenoble is the closest railway station and regional airport. Lyon is the most useful major airport, around 150 km away; Geneva is another option but normally involves a longer transfer.

Is Sarenne suitable for everyone?+

No. Its 16 km make it famous, but length, altitude and changing snow require secure technique and sensible timing. It is best approached with current local advice.

Personally experienced · Colorado expertise

Fabrício's perspective.

Colorado Experience — Snow since 2012

Alpe d’Huez is an excellent mountain for beginners, children and families. Its many green runs and progression areas make learning comfortable, while Bergers simplifies lessons and family logistics. Mixed-ability groups also benefit from long intermediate slopes and challenges such as Pic Blanc and Sarenne.
