Whistler Blackcomb. Two mountains, endless possibilities.

A complete Whistler Blackcomb guide: how the mountains differ, where to stay, selected hotels, family planning and access via Vancouver.

Colorado curation

With 8,171 acres, 200+ marked runs and one of the world's most complete pedestrian villages, Whistler rewards a careful choice between the Village, Upper Village and Creekside.

The Colorado perspective

Two mountains.
One complete destination.

Whistler Blackcomb combines exceptional scale with a pedestrian village, sophisticated hotels and enough off-mountain life for skiers and non-skiers to enjoy the same journey.

Colorado knows the destination personally. That perspective helps us choose not only the hotel, but the base, mountain strategy and daily pace.

How the domain works

Whistler, Blackcomb
and the link between them.

The scale is a privilege—and a reason to plan each day around ability, visibility and lift status.

01

Variety and long descents

Whistler Mountain

Its broad mix of groomers, alpine bowls and family terrain works especially well for mixed-ability groups. Harmony, Symphony and Peak are highlights when conditions allow; Creekside offers a quieter second access point.

02

Alpine character and progression

Blackcomb Mountain

7th Heaven, Glacier and Crystal give Blackcomb a distinctive high-alpine identity, strong intermediate terrain and demanding options. Upper Village is its most convenient base.

03

The strategic link

PEAK 2 PEAK

The gondola connects the upper areas of both mountains. It makes changing mountain during the day possible, but weather and operating status must remain part of the daily plan.

Choosing the base

Village energy.
Upper Village calm.
Creekside space.

In Whistler, the neighbourhood changes the trip. The right answer depends on who is travelling, which mountain should be easiest to reach and how important dining and nightlife are after skiing.

Three different stays

Where to stay in Whistler.

01

Energy and convenience

Whistler Village

Direct gondola access to both mountains, the greatest choice of dining, shopping and après-ski, and the easiest pedestrian routine. It is also the liveliest and busiest base.

02

Luxury and calm

Upper Village

At the foot of Blackcomb, with Fairmont and Four Seasons nearby. Quieter at night, excellent for families and luxury travellers, while still an easy walk from the main Village.

03

Space and local rhythm

Creekside

The original Whistler base, 4.2 km south of the Village, with its own gondola and essential services. It suits guests who prefer a calmer, more residential stay and accept fewer evening choices.

After the slopes

Après-ski starts at the base.

  • Merlin’s Bar & Grill in Upper Village is a classic meeting point at the foot of Blackcomb.
  • Garibaldi Lift Co. and Longhorn Saloon bring the après energy to Whistler’s base.
  • Dubh Linn Gate combines a pub atmosphere, live music and immediate access to the Village.
  • The base also shapes the evening: Upper Village is calmer, while Whistler Village is livelier.

Practical questions

Before choosing
your base.

Which mountain is better?+

Neither is universally better. Whistler is often simpler for mixed groups and long groomed descents; Blackcomb has a particularly strong alpine personality. A good itinerary uses both according to weather, visibility and ability.

How long should I stay?+

Seven to nine nights give the destination room to breathe, especially for first visits. Five to seven can work for focused skiers with efficient flight connections.

Do I need a car?+

Usually not. The main Village is pedestrian, local transit connects the valley and transfers operate from Vancouver. A car adds parking and winter-driving considerations.

Is Whistler suitable for beginners?+

Yes. Ski school and dedicated learning terrain are strong, but the resort is vast: choosing the right base, meeting point and daily mountain matters.

What is the main airport?+

Vancouver International Airport (YVR), about 135 km away. The final journey follows the Sea to Sky Highway; winter weather can change travel conditions.

Fabrício's perspective.

Colorado Experience — Snow since 2012

Whistler Blackcomb is too large to approach as a random sequence of runs. Choosing between the Village, Upper Village and Creekside—and reading visibility and operations each day—makes the journey far more fluid.
