Andorra · Pyrenees

Grandvalira. Seven sectors, one great journey.

A complete Grandvalira guide: Soldeu, El Tarter, Canillo, Encamp, Grau Roig, Pas de la Casa, hotels, families and access via Barcelona or Toulouse.

Colorado curation

With 215 km of pistes and very different bases, Grandvalira requires more than choosing a good hotel. Colorado combines sector, ski school, logistics and experiences to design Andorra at the right pace.

Andorra · Pirineus

One great mountain, with seven ways to experience it.

Grandvalira links 215 kilometres of pistes across Encamp, Canillo, El Tarter, Soldeu, Peretol, Grau Roig and Pas de la Casa. It is the Pyrenees’ largest ski area and one of the most versatile snow journeys for Brazilian families.

The decisive point is not simply choosing Grandvalira, but selecting the right base. Each village creates a different experience on the mountain, in the evening and in daily logistics.

Colorado experience

Grandvalira, seen by someone who has experienced Andorra on snow.

Fabrício Sá knows Grandvalira first-hand and understands how the choice of village, hotel and lesson sector changes the result, especially for families and mixed-ability groups.

The curation considers access, skier profile, ski school, restaurants, après-ski, shopping and the possibility of combining Andorra with Barcelona.

Linked sectors

Seven gateways to Grandvalira.

The area is linked on skis, but crossing it end to end requires ability, time and attention to the return.

01

Soldeu

One of the most complete and sophisticated bases, with direct access, a strong ski school, upscale hotels and restaurants. The Espiolets–Pla de les Pedres axis works particularly well for intermediates and touring the area.

02

El Tarter

A practical base for families, snowboarders and groups prioritising quick access. It includes Riba Escorxada, a snowpark and L’Abarset, Andorra’s leading après-ski address.

03

Canillo

A quiet, family-oriented gateway linked by gondola to El Forn. It suits first snow experiences, children and travellers who prefer a gentler rhythm.

04

Encamp

The Funicamp gondola reaches the heart of the ski area from a base close to Andorra la Vella. It suits travellers combining skiing, shopping, dining and Caldea, though the morning lift journey is longer.

05

Grau Roig

A high-mountain sector without an urban village, offering open scenery, varied pistes, mushing and snowshoeing. It is distinctive for travellers prioritising quiet, nature and characterful accommodation.

06

Pas de la Casa

The highest and liveliest base, close to France. It offers immediate piste access, shopping and nightlife, suiting independent groups and skiers who enjoy an energetic atmosphere.

07

Peretol

A strategic access point between Grau Roig and Soldeu, associated with Sunset Park Peretol. It is more a functional sporting area than a complete village.

Choosing your base

Where should you stay for Grandvalira?

01

Soldeu

The most versatile choice for sophisticated hotels, restaurants and a balance of village life and pistes. It works very well for upscale couples, families and groups.

02

El Tarter

Highly practical for families and mountain-focused travellers. Some hotels sit beside the gondola while others require a shuttle.

03

Grau Roig

A more exclusive, secluded experience surrounded by mountains. Excellent for quiet and nature, but without the evening variety of Soldeu or Andorra la Vella.

04

Andorra la Vella · Escaldes

An urban base for shopping, dining, Caldea and non-skiers. It is not ski-in/ski-out: each day requires transport to a Grandvalira access point.

05

Pas de la Casa

Combines altitude, varied pricing and immediate access. Its atmosphere is busier and less refined, so it should be chosen for the group’s profile.

Selected accommodation

From the mountain to central Andorra.

Colorado compares lift distance, shuttle, ski school, family rooms, spa and dining before recommending accommodation.

01

Sport Hotel Hermitage & Spa · Soldeu

Andorra’s luxury benchmark, with privileged gondola access, comprehensive service, an extensive spa and a strong dining proposition.

02

Serras Andorra · Incles

A contemporary boutique hotel between Soldeu and El Tarter, with an intimate atmosphere, dining and an experience-led approach. Exact piste logistics should be confirmed.

03

Park Piolets MountainHotel & Spa · Soldeu

A sophisticated option for families and couples, with spa, spacious rooms and a gondola shuttle. It balances facilities with proximity to the village.

04

Grau Roig Andorra Boutique Hotel & Spa

A distinctive address within the Grau Roig landscape, ideal for quiet, nature and mountain access. Its proposition is more exclusive than urban.

05

Hotel Nordic · El Tarter

Highly practical for the ski routine, with extensive facilities, apartments and a family focus. Location is its defining advantage.

06

Casa Serras · Andorra la Vella

A sophisticated urban address for enjoying the centre, restaurants and shopping on foot. It suits travellers who value the city experience and are comfortable with the daily transfer to Grandvalira’s access points.

07

Hotel MIM Andorra · Escaldes

A contemporary urban base for combining shopping, restaurants and Caldea. It suits travellers comfortable with a daily transfer to the mountain.

Beyond the pistes

Andorra works beautifully for non-skiers too.

01

Caldea

The thermal complex in Escaldes-Engordany is a strong option for rest days and non-skiers. Inúu provides a more adult, private experience.

02

Shopping and historic centre

Andorra la Vella combines shopping, restaurants and a compact historic quarter. It works best as a complement to the mountain.

03

Snow experiences

Mushing, snowshoeing, snowmobiles and mountain dinners broaden the journey for non-skiers or anyone seeking a change of pace.

04

Mountain dining

Restaurants across the sectors make lunch a central part of the day. Reservations and return times should be coordinated.

Arrival and logistics

Barcelona broadens the journey; Toulouse shortens the road.

Barcelona is approximately 195 km from Grandvalira, while Toulouse is around 170 km away. There is no direct railway to Andorra, and the final journey is by road.

For Brazilian travellers, Barcelona usually offers the simplest flight combination and allows an urban extension before or after the snow.

For families

Ski school, hotel and sector must work together.

Booking on hotel reputation alone can create unnecessary transfers. The lesson meeting point is as important as the accommodation category.

For mixed groups, Soldeu and El Tarter usually provide the best balance. Canillo suits a gentle first experience, while Grau Roig creates a more secluded and distinctive stay.

FAQ

Before choosing Grandvalira.

Is Grandvalira suitable for beginners?+

Yes. Several sectors offer learning areas. Canillo, Soldeu and El Tarter often work particularly well, but accommodation and lesson meeting point should be selected together.

Which base is best for families?+

Soldeu offers the most complete combination, El Tarter prioritises convenience and Canillo has a quieter rhythm. The answer changes with children’s ages, ski school and hotel.

Is it worth staying in Andorra la Vella?+

Yes for travellers prioritising shopping, dining, Caldea and non-skiers. For daily skiing, Soldeu or El Tarter normally offer a smoother routine.

Barcelona or Toulouse?+

Toulouse is slightly closer; Barcelona usually offers stronger flight options for Brazilian travellers and itinerary combinations. Weather, flights and the chosen base determine the best solution.

How many nights are ideal?+

Five to seven nights work well. Shorter stays can be combined with Barcelona provided the transfer does not consume too much of the journey.

Grandvalira, Pal Arinsal or Ordino Arcalís?+

Grandvalira offers the greatest variety, Pal Arinsal favours families and progression, while Ordino Arcalís has a snow and freeride profile. The combined pass makes it easier to explore all three.
