Where to ski in Chile?

From Santiago’s Andes to the southern volcanoes, compare seven resorts and find the right journey.

Colorado curation

In Chile, staying by the slopes or returning to town changes your whole day. From a Portillo week and Valle Nevado hotels to southern scenery, the best choice starts with what you want to experience.

Choose your journey

The mountain should fit you.

Seven choices from Santiago's Andes to the southern volcanoes. Lodging and access shape the journey as much as the slopes.

Where to begin

What do you want from the trip?

01

Resort routine

Valle Nevado or Portillo

Compare hotels, meals and mountain character. Portillo centres on shared resort life; Valle Nevado offers different resort bases.

02

Nature and downtime

Corralco or Chillán

In the south, hotels and scenery take a larger role. Choose your base around skiing and downtime.

03

Mountain independence

La Parva

Apartments and chalets require independent planning but can suit slope-focused groups.

04

Town with snow days

El Colorado or Pillán

Santiago and Pucón are different journeys. Choose around the town, logistics and flexibility you want.

The right base

Stay by the slopes or return to town?

Valle Nevado and Portillo can centre a trip on the mountain; La Parva offers a more residential routine. Corralco and Chillán bring different scenery and southern bases. Santiago and Pucón support town-and-ski itineraries, accounting for road time on each snow day.

Timing and logistics

Choose a region before adding resorts.

Valle Nevado, La Parva and El Colorado are in the Santiago region, but cross-resort access and passes depend on operations and the purchased product. Portillo follows a different road and its own resort model. Corralco, Chillán and Pillán need dedicated logistics, not day trips from the capital.

July and August are reference months for planning the southern winter, but operations depend on each season's snow. School holidays, ability, transfer time and lesson availability help select dates. For beginners, suitable learning terrain and instruction matter more than the largest domain.

FAQ

Before deciding.

Which should I choose for a first ski trip?+

Compare Valle Nevado for mountain lodging and El Colorado for a shorter Santiago trip. Corralco and Chillán suit groups valuing hotels and downtime too. Coordinate lessons with the pass and learning sector.

Can non-skiers enjoy the trip?+

Yes, when companions are part of the planning from the start. Town life, dining, scenery, hot springs or hotel time can form a separate programme. Everyone need not follow the same pace or spend every day at the mountain.

Does the largest trail count mean the best choice?+

No. Counts may include connecting routes and sectors, while openings change with winter conditions. Compare usable terrain, instruction, lodging and access. A smaller mountain can deliver a better trip for travellers wanting a simpler routine or fewer days.
