Where to ski in Argentina?

Seven mountains, from Bariloche to Ushuaia. Compare terrain, hotels, town bases and each journey’s rhythm.

Colorado curation

Choose the mountain alongside your base: San Martín dinners, Villa La Angostura scenery and Ushuaia outings belong in a snow trip too. This guide helps find the combination that fits you.

The mountain should fit you.

Seven choices, from Bariloche to Ushuaia. Compare terrain, lodging bases and daily routines before choosing.

01

Terrain variety and Bariloche

Cerro Catedral

Broad terrain for mixed abilities, with schools, restaurants and a wide lodging choice. Bariloche adds sightseeing, dining and a separate programme for non-skiers.

02

Families, forest and San Martín

Chapelco

A strong mix of progression terrain, forest scenery and a pleasant town for walks and dinner. A useful option for families wanting several ski days and evenings in San Martín.

What to consider
Town accommodation requires mountain transfers. Hotels outside downtown may offer more privacy but change both dinner and ski logistics.

03

Scenery and a Villa La Angostura stay

Cerro Bayo

Nahuel Huapi views and Villa La Angostura's hotels give the trip its character. It suits couples and families who value their stay and dining as much as skiing.

Runs and terrain
24 runs · 14 km
Where to stay
Villa La Angostura
Air gateway
Bariloche · BRC
What to consider
The domain is smaller than Catedral. Travellers seeking new terrain throughout a full week should consider trip length and time in the village.

04

Snow and a journey to Ushuaia

Cerro Castor

The mountain's aspect and far-southern location favour snow preservation. Terrain suits varied abilities, while Ushuaia adds the Beagle Channel, dining and scenic hotels.

What to consider
The destination is far from Argentina's other ski areas. Build a dedicated Ushuaia itinerary with separate ski and sightseeing days.

05

High mountains and demanding terrain

Las Leñas

An option for mountain-focused travellers seeking demanding terrain. Valley accommodation brings the ski routine closer; beginners still need a programme matched to ability.

Where to stay
Hotels and apartments in the valley
Air gateway
San Rafael · AFA / Mendoza · MDZ
What to consider
Wind and lift openings can substantially change available terrain. Airport transfers are long and off-slope life is concentrated in the resort.

06

A different scale on the Seven Lakes Route

Lago Hermoso

The smaller scale and Lanín National Park scenery suit a ski day at a different pace. It can complement Chapelco from San Martín, with lessons and forest experiences.

San Martín de los Andes

Chapelco · CPC
What to consider
It does not offer the scale of a major resort. For a ski-focused week, combine it with Chapelco rather than expecting extensive terrain every day.

07

Rewarding runs and simple facilities

Cerro Perito Moreno

Fabrício has visited and highlights the runs and ski pass value. It suits travellers who accept simpler services and want time for skiing and the El Bolsón region.

Runs and terrain
17 runs · 25 km
Where to stay
El Bolsón · limited base lodging

Bariloche · BRC
What to consider
Lifts are slow and facilities still need development. Allow around two hours each way from Bariloche; El Bolsón is a more practical base for several ski days.

Where to begin

What do you want from the trip?

01

Family and town

Chapelco or Catedral

Compare San Martín and Bariloche alongside lessons and transport. The right town also supports non-skiers.

02

Scenery and hotels

Cerro Bayo

Villa La Angostura deserves time away from the slopes. A well-chosen stay is part of the experience.

03

Skiing first

Las Leñas

For technical skiing and high mountains, accounting for wind, lift openings and a longer transfer.

04

A different journey

Cerro Castor

Choose a full Ushuaia journey: ski days and separate time for the Beagle, scenery and dining.

The right base

Town life belongs in a snow trip.

Bariloche, San Martín de los Andes, Villa La Angostura and Ushuaia offer different atmospheres. Many Argentine itineraries use a town hotel with ski transfers. Choosing only by trail count overlooks dinners, downtime and companions' plans.

Timing and logistics

Choose a region before adding resorts.

Catedral, Bayo and Perito Moreno can form stages of a Bariloche-region journey when each base gets enough time. Chapelco and Lago Hermoso share San Martín as a reference. Las Leñas and Ushuaia need dedicated itineraries, not quick additions to the Seven Lakes resorts.

July and August are reference months for planning the southern winter, but operations depend on each season's snow. School holidays, ability, transfer time and lesson availability help select dates. For beginners, suitable learning terrain and instruction matter more than the largest domain.

FAQ

Before deciding.

Which should I choose for a first ski trip?+

Start by comparing Catedral and Chapelco for instruction, town life and family itineraries. Bayo, Castor and Lago Hermoso can also work, depending on ages, lodging and trip length.

Can non-skiers enjoy the trip?+

Yes, when companions are part of the planning from the start. Town life, dining, scenery, hot springs or hotel time can form a separate programme. Everyone need not follow the same pace or spend every day at the mountain.

Does the largest trail count mean the best choice?+

No. Counts may include connecting routes and sectors, while openings change with winter conditions. Compare usable terrain, instruction, lodging and access. A smaller mountain can deliver a better trip for travellers wanting a simpler routine or fewer days.
