Switzerland · Gstaad

Quiet luxury. Many mountains.

A complete Gstaad guide: distinct ski sectors, village bases, access and a curated selection of 3-, 4- and 5-star hotels.

Colorado curation

Gstaad combines 200 km of pistes from 1,000 to 3,000 metres, chalet villages, Glacier 3000 and an exceptional tradition of hotels and gastronomy. Colorado matches the base and sectors to every journey.

01

Who it suits

Couples, families and groups who value discreet luxury, gastronomy and experiences beyond skiing.

02

The mountains

Distinct sectors including Eggli, Horneggli–Rinderberg, Wispile and Glacier 3000.

03

The village

An iconic promenade, leading hotels and authentic alternatives in Saanen and Schönried.

The Colorado perspective

Quiet luxury.
Many mountains.

Gstaad combines one of the Alps' most recognisable chalet villages with a broad, fragmented ski region and an exceptional tradition of hotels, gastronomy and discreet service.

Its strength is not simply piste mileage: it is the freedom to balance skiing, family time, long lunches, wellness, shopping and beautiful journeys through the Saanenland.

The mountains

A region, not one single resort.

  • Eggli–La Videmanette for long, scenic skiing and lunches on the mountain.
  • Rinderberg–Saanersloch–Horneggli for the region's most continuous circuit.
  • Wispile and village lifts for families, gentle terrain and first turns.
  • Glacier 3000 for high altitude, dramatic views and a long season.

The sectors are not all linked by pistes. A successful week depends on matching each day's weather, snow and group profile with the right mountain.

Choosing a base

Gstaad,
Saanen or Schönried?

Gstaad offers the iconic promenade, leading hotels, boutiques and restaurants. Saanen feels more authentic and often represents better value. Schönried places skiers closer to Horneggli and the largest connected circuit. The right hotel matters more here than in a compact ski-in/ski-out resort.

Access

Arrive by train.
Slow down immediately.

Geneva is the most practical major gateway: allow about two hours by car or 2h50 by train. Zurich takes around three hours by car or 3h15 by train. The rail journey through Lake Geneva and the Pays-d'Enhaut is part of the experience; a private transfer is simplest with children and ski luggage.

Practical questions

Before choosing
your hotel.

Is Gstaad suitable for beginners?+

Yes. Village lifts and gentle sectors make the region welcoming to first-timers. The best school and mountain access depend on the chosen base.

Is the ski area fully interconnected?+

No. Gstaad is a collection of distinct sectors linked by train, bus or car. This makes good daily planning and the right hotel base especially important.

How many nights should I stay?+

Six or seven nights are ideal for a complete ski journey. Four nights can work for a shorter luxury escape combined with Geneva, Lausanne or Montreux.

Do I need a car?+

Not necessarily. Trains and buses connect the villages and mountain bases. Private transfers are valuable on arrival, while a car may add flexibility for mixed itineraries.

Colorado can arrange flights, scenic rail or private transfers, hotel or chalet, ski passes, lessons, equipment, insurance, mountain restaurants and a wider Swiss itinerary.
