Italy · Aosta Valley · Mont Blanc

Courmayeur. Italian charm beneath Mont Blanc.

A complete Courmayeur guide: Plan Chécrouit, Val Veny, Dolonne, bases, hotels, Skyway Monte Bianco and access.

Colorado curation

Colorado combines mountain, town and accommodation for experiencing Courmayeur at the right pace.

Valle d’Aosta · Monte Bianco

An elegant town beneath the Alps’ highest mountain.

Courmayeur combines a lively historic centre, Italian dining and a compact ski area between Plan Chécrouit and Val Veny. The Mont Blanc massif frames the entire journey.

It is a particularly strong choice for couples, families and groups who value life off the pistes as much as the mountain. For many travellers, four or five days provide the ideal balance.

Colorado curation

Courmayeur is a mountain journey, not only a ski trip.

The ski area does not compete in size with Cervinia or the Dolomites. Its strength lies in the combination of groomed pistes, excellent lunches, a charming centre and unique Mont Blanc experiences.

Choosing between the centre, Dolonne and Entrèves changes the daily rhythm completely. Colorado maps those distances before recommending accommodation and length of stay.

Mountain sectors

Five essential experiences.

01

Plan Chécrouit

The heart of the ski area, reached by cable car from the centre and gondola from Dolonne. It concentrates ski school, restaurants and varied pistes for an efficient start to the day.

02

Maison Vieille · Checrouit

Sunny, panoramic pistes above Plan Chécrouit that are particularly enjoyable for intermediates. It is also one of the best areas for long mountain lunches.

03

Youla · Arp

The highest and most sporting part of the area offers more demanding terrain and a strong high-mountain feel. Wind, snow and visibility have a significant effect on operations.

04

Val Veny

The side facing the Mont Blanc massif combines long pistes, woodland sections and exceptional scenery. The return reconnects with the Plan Chécrouit axis.

05

Dolonne

The gondola provides practical access from a quiet village beside Courmayeur. Its children’s area and simpler logistics make Dolonne a strong family base.

Choosing your base

Where should you stay in Courmayeur?

01

Centre · Via Roma

The best choice for enjoying restaurants, shops and evening strolls on foot. Courmayeur’s cable car reaches Plan Chécrouit; the hotel’s distance from the station should be checked.

02

Dolonne

A historic, quiet hamlet linked to the mountain by gondola. It suits families and guests prioritising piste access, while remaining a short walk from the centre.

03

Entrèves

A stone village beneath the massif, close to Skyway Monte Bianco and the tunnel. It has very charming hotels but requires transport to the ski lifts and Courmayeur centre.

04

La Saxe · Villair

Residential areas near the centre with a quiet atmosphere and good views. Convenience varies according to the hotel and shuttle service.

05

Pré-Saint-Didier

A spa village in the valley, around 15 minutes from Courmayeur. It can balance value and wellness but does not provide the same village routine or immediate ski access.

Selected accommodation

From Via Roma to the quiet of Entrèves.

Colorado compares lift access, shuttle, evening location, rooms and wellness before recommending accommodation.

01

Grand Hotel Royal e Golf

A historic five-star hotel in the centre directly on Via Roma. It combines a privileged location, spa and the convenience of experiencing Courmayeur on foot.

02

Le Massif Hotel & Lodge

A contemporary hotel near Courmayeur’s cable car, with its own lodge at Plan Chécrouit. One of the most practical options for combining town and mountain.

03

Grand Hotel Courmayeur Mont Blanc

An upscale resort in a quiet position above the centre, with an extensive spa and shuttle. It works well for guests who value comprehensive facilities.

04

Auberge de La Maison · Entrèves

An intimate Alpine address with Mont Blanc views, warm service, dining and spa. Ideal for guests willing to use a shuttle in exchange for charm and tranquillity.

05

Gran Baita Hotel & Wellness

An elegant four-star hotel between the centre and La Saxe, with wellness and a classic atmosphere. The hotel transport supports the daily ski routine.

06

Au Coeur des Neiges

Independent chalets and apartments near the cable car, suited to families and groups seeking space, privacy and tailored services.

Skyway Monte Bianco

An extraordinary experience—outside the piste network.

Skyway departs from Entrèves, passes through Pavillon and reaches Punta Helbronner at 3,466 metres. Its panoramic cabins reveal glaciers and some of the Alps’ highest peaks.

It does not connect with Courmayeur’s pistes. Ski descents such as Vallée Blanche are off-piste glacier itineraries and should only be attempted with a high-mountain guide and appropriate equipment.

Arrival and mobility

Geneva is close; Turin keeps the journey within Italy.

Geneva is approximately 115 km away via the Mont Blanc Tunnel. Turin is around 150 km away and Milan Malpensa just over 210 km. Traffic, the border and winter conditions affect journey time.

At the destination, local buses connect the centre, Dolonne, Entrèves and mountain access points. A well-chosen hotel considerably reduces dependence on a car.

FAQ

Before choosing Courmayeur.

Is Courmayeur good for beginners?+

Yes, particularly around Plan Chécrouit and Dolonne. The compact area also offers plenty for intermediates, though it has fewer easy pistes than some large family resorts.

Does Skyway Monte Bianco access Courmayeur’s pistes?+

No. Skyway departs from Entrèves and reaches Punta Helbronner as a panoramic high-mountain experience. Skiing from there is off-piste and requires a guide, equipment and suitable conditions.

Is Courmayeur linked to Chamonix by pistes?+

There is no conventional piste-and-lift link. The towns connect by road through the Mont Blanc Tunnel; glacier itineraries such as Vallée Blanche are guided high-mountain activities.

Which base is best for families?+

Dolonne simplifies gondola and children’s-area access. The centre offers more restaurants and services. The best choice depends on the hotel, children’s ages and ski-school meeting point.

Which airport should I choose?+

Geneva is often the most practical gateway at around 115 km, though the route crosses the border and Mont Blanc Tunnel. Turin and Milan also work depending on flights, traffic and itinerary.
