Austria · Tyrol · Ötztal

Sölden. Glaciers, altitude and sporting terrain.

A complete Sölden guide: two glaciers, BIG3, Giggijoch, Gaislachkogl, Hochsölden, hotels and access through Ötztal.

Colorado curation

Colorado plans Sölden around ability, pace and the right gateway to the mountain.

Ötztal · Tirol

Two glaciers. Three peaks. One sporting mountain.

Sölden combines altitude, modern infrastructure and a ski area reaching 3,340 metres. It is particularly strong for skiers and snowboarders who value wide pistes, vertical and full mountain days.

The experience changes with accommodation: the centre offers more life and access through the two main gondolas; Hochsölden prioritises quiet and ski-in/ski-out convenience.

Colorado experience

Fabrício’s perspective.

Sölden is among the mountains personally visited by Fabrício Sá, founder of Colorado Viagens and a snowboarder since 2012.

The curation matches the mountain access point with the traveller’s profile. For snowboarders and sporting groups, Sölden delivers altitude, broad pistes and highly efficient infrastructure; beginners need more careful alignment of lessons and location.

Mountain sectors

Understand it before exploring.

01

Giggijoch

One of the main gateways, with broad pistes, progression terrain and efficient access to the upper sectors. It works well for intermediates, lessons and mixed-pace groups.

02

Gaislachkogl

A sporting and panoramic sector served directly from the village. The summit hosts 007 ELEMENTS and ice Q; operation, times and reservations should be confirmed for the travel dates.

03

Rettenbach and Tiefenbach

The two glacier areas add altitude and snow reliability. Links may be affected by wind, visibility and operations, so each day should follow the official report.

04

BIG3

Gaislachkogl (3,058 m), Tiefenbachkogl (3,250 m) and Schwarze Schneid (3,340 m) form the three-peak circuit above 3,000 metres. There is no need to complete it all in one day.

Where to stay

Your base defines the rhythm.

01

Centre · Giggijoch

The best combination of mountain access, restaurants, shops and après-ski. Actual walking distance to Giggijochbahn should be assessed hotel by hotel.

02

Gaislachkogl

More convenient for travellers who want to start in this sector and stay near the gondola. The centre remains accessible by local transport.

03

Hochsölden

A high-altitude base at about 2,090 metres, quieter and focused on a ski-in/ski-out routine. It has less village life and requires attention to arrival, luggage and evening transport.

04

Zwieselstein

A small hamlet south of Sölden with a quieter atmosphere. It can suit guests willing to use buses or transfers and who value distance from the busy centre.

Selected accommodation

Location before the name.

01

Das Central

A landmark central address with dining, spa and high-level service. Ideal for combining the mountain, comfort and village life.

02

Bergland Design- und Wellnesshotel

A contemporary hotel near the centre with a strong wellness proposition and organised mountain access. A good option for couples and adults.

03

The Secret Sölden

Contemporary suites and apartments close to Gaislachkoglbahn. Well suited to travellers who value space and independence without giving up services.

04

Hotel Liebe Sonne

A traditional option conveniently positioned for Giggijochbahn and the centre. Attractive for travellers seeking a practical ski routine.

05

Hotel Schöne Aussicht · Hochsölden

A high-altitude base very close to the pistes with a more private atmosphere. Suits guests who want the mountain at the centre of the stay.

06

Hotel Enzian · Hochsölden

Another ski-in/ski-out option in Hochsölden with wellness and a quiet routine. Arrival logistics should be settled before departure.

Access through Ötztal

Innsbruck, rail and valley.

Innsbruck is usually the most practical air gateway. Trains reach Ötztal-Bahnhof at the valley entrance; public bus, shuttle or private transfer then continue to Sölden.

Guests staying in Hochsölden should confirm the final leg, luggage delivery and evening arrival in advance. A car is not essential when hotel and transfer are well coordinated.

FAQ

Before choosing Sölden.

Is Sölden good for snowboarding?+

Yes. Wide pistes, modern lifts, large vertical drops and high-mountain sectors create a strong snowboard experience. Ability and conditions should guide each day’s route.

Is it suitable for beginners?+

There are blue runs and progression areas, especially around Giggijoch. Because the resort is large and busy, ski school, meeting point and hotel should be planned together.

Are Sölden and Obergurgl the same ski area?+

No. They are separate ski areas in Ötztal. Some products may combine valley areas, but they are not linked by pistes; pass, transport and operation must be confirmed.

How do I reach Sölden?+

Innsbruck is the nearest airport. By train, the gateway is Ötztal-Bahnhof, followed by bus or transfer through the valley. Buses normally run frequently according to the official timetable.

Hochsölden or the centre?+

Hochsölden favours ski-in/ski-out, quiet and altitude. The centre offers more restaurants, shops, après-ski and flexibility. The choice depends on the group’s rhythm.

Is unguided freeriding recommended?+

No. Off-piste terrain requires a qualified guide, proper equipment, training and avalanche-bulletin awareness. Glaciers and high altitude add specific risks.
