Colorado Experience — Snow since 2012

La Plagne is one of the most complete mountains for families and mixed-ability groups. The key is choosing the village around lesson meeting points, the children’s ages and the desired pace — Belle Plagne, Plagne Centre and the traditional villages offer very different experiences.

Choosing the base

Convenience,
charm or
tradition.

Belle Plagne is the most atmospheric high base; Plagne Centre is the operational hub; Plagne 1800 feels calmer; Montalbert, Montchavin–Les Coches and Champagny bring traditional Alpine life.

Where to stay

The village changes
the entire journey.

01

Belle Plagne · 2,050 m

The most charming high-altitude base, pedestrian and largely ski-in/ski-out, with restaurants and attractive chalet-style architecture.

02

Plagne Centre · 1,970 m

The practical hub: strong lift access, ski schools, shops and services. Particularly efficient for families and first visits.

03

Plagne Bellecôte · 1,930 m

Functional and well connected, with direct links towards Belle Plagne and the high mountain. Architecture is practical rather than intimate.

04

Plagne 1800 · 1,800 m

A quieter, wooded chalet atmosphere, with useful access to the central sectors and a more residential evening rhythm.

05

Plagne Soleil & Villages · 2,050 m

Sunny, ski-in/ski-out and apartment-led bases above Plagne Centre, suitable for travellers who prioritise piste access.

06

Montalbert, Montchavin–Les Coches & Champagny

Traditional lower villages with more Alpine character. They require careful planning for crossings and spring snow conditions.

Paradiski

One planned day
towards Les Arcs.

The Vanoise Express transforms La Plagne into a 425 km journey. The crossing works best for confident skiers who leave early, select an efficient route and respect the return timetable.

The Olympic
bobsleigh track.

La Plagne’s Olympic bobsleigh track is unique in France. Sledging, snowshoeing, spas, pools and pedestrian-accessible mountain restaurants also give mixed groups useful alternatives.

Practical questions

Before choosing
your village.

Is La Plagne good for beginners and families?+

Yes. Wide blue pistes, dedicated learning areas, snow gardens from age three and ski-in/ski-out accommodation make it one of France’s strongest family choices.

Which village should I choose?+

Belle Plagne offers the best village atmosphere; Plagne Centre maximises convenience; Plagne 1800 is quieter; the traditional lower villages add charm. The lesson meeting point should guide the final choice.

Is the Paradiski pass necessary?+

Not every day. La Plagne’s 225 km are already extensive. Confident intermediates and advanced skiers benefit most from planning a dedicated crossing to Les Arcs via the Vanoise Express.

How do I get there?+

Geneva and Lyon are the main international airports. Aime-la-Plagne is the rail gateway, followed by a road transfer to the chosen village.

How long should I stay?+

Seven nights work especially well, allowing time to understand the sectors, explore the high mountain and reserve a Paradiski day for Les Arcs.
