Italy · Alto Adige · Dolomites

Alta Badia. Skiing, Ladin culture and dining.

A complete Alta Badia guide: 130 km, Corvara, Colfosco, San Cassiano, La Villa, Sella Ronda, hotels and access.

Colorado curation

Colorado combines the right village, hotel and mountain pace for experiencing Alta Badia in full.

Alto Adige · Dolomitas

Immaculate pistes, Ladin culture and exceptional dining.

Alta Badia occupies a sunny plateau in the heart of the Dolomites, framed by the Sella and linked to the Sella Ronda. The mountain is especially rewarding for intermediates and families, while retaining challenges such as Gran Risa.

More than one village, the destination brings together bases with distinct personalities. Corvara prioritises convenience; Colfosco, access and scenery; San Cassiano, accommodation and dining; La Villa, a sporting position.

Colorado curation

A journey shaped by pace, not only by the map.

Alta Badia rewards guests who balance good ski days with mountain lunches, scenery and time in the villages. Trying to cover every circuit can remove precisely what makes the destination special.

Hotel choice changes access to ski school, the Sella Ronda and restaurants. Colorado maps those distances before recommending a base.

Mountain sectors

Five essential experiences.

01

Piz La Ila · Gran Risa

La Villa’s gondola reaches the central plateau and the historic Gran Risa, one of the World Cup’s most technical pistes. Intermediate alternatives exist, while the full descent requires advanced ability.

02

Piz Sorega · Pralongià

The panoramic axis between San Cassiano and Corvara combines wide, sunny, progressive pistes with some of the Dolomites’ most sought-after mountain huts. It is particularly strong for families and intermediates.

03

Col Alt · Piz Boè

From Corvara, this sector balances quick access, varied pistes and a natural gateway to the Sella Ronda. Its position supports long touring days when return times are respected.

04

Colfosco · Passo Gardena

The base closest to the Sella massif links Alta Badia with Val Gardena and has a more Alpine feel. It is excellent for guests prioritising the Sella Ronda and scenery.

05

Santa Croce · La Crusc

The sector above Badia is quieter and removed from the main circuit, with enjoyable pistes, Ladin tradition and monumental views. It works beautifully for a change of pace.

Choosing your village

Which is the right Alta Badia base?

01

Corvara

The most complete and practical base, with restaurants, shops and direct access to Col Alt, Boè and the Sella Ronda. It suits guests combining mountain access, convenience and village life.

02

Colfosco

Higher and framed by the Sella walls, it offers excellent piste access and a quieter setting. It is particularly strong for families and ski-in/ski-out stays.

03

San Cassiano

A small, sophisticated village known for accommodation and dining. Piz Sorega links into the plateau; some hotels require a short shuttle to the gondola.

04

La Villa

A strategic central-valley position with immediate access to Piz La Ila and Gran Risa. It has a sporting profile and useful logistics for exploring different sectors.

05

Badia · Pedraces

Quieter and linked to the Santa Croce sector, it retains a local atmosphere and often offers a strong balance of space and value. It is not the most direct base for the Sella Ronda.

Selected accommodation

From Ladin tradition to ultra-luxury.

Colorado compares piste access, shuttle, rooms, wellness and group profile before recommending accommodation.

01

Aman Rosa Alpina · San Cassiano

An Alta Badia icon reopened under the Aman flag, with an ultra-luxury approach, extensive spa and highly personalised service. It is the reference for guests placing privacy and the hotel experience at the centre of the journey.

02

Hotel La Perla · Corvara

An upscale Ladin house in central Corvara, with strong identity, dining and convenient mountain access. A balanced choice for experiencing the village on foot.

03

Hotel Cappella · Colfosco

A Relais & Châteaux property in a privileged piste-side position, combining art, spa and family hospitality. It works especially well for guests prioritising access and tranquillity.

04

Hotel Ciasa Salares · San Cassiano

A family-run address near Armentarola, known for its dining experience and welcoming atmosphere. Its location favours Lagazuoi and requires attention to daily access to Piz Sorega.

05

Hotel Sassongher · Corvara

A traditional hotel in an elevated position, with wide views, wellness and shuttle service to the pistes and centre. It suits guests who value facilities and panorama.

06

Hotel Fanes · San Cassiano

An Alpine resort with extensive wellness, varied room categories and strong facilities for couples and families. Lift logistics should be matched to the group’s profile.

Gran Risa · Sella Ronda

Two icons, two very different experiences.

Gran Risa represents Alta Badia’s technical side: a demanding, historic World Cup piste. The Sella Ronda is a panoramic day journey, skied in either direction around the Sella massif.

Neither needs to define the entire journey. On some days, Pralongià, Santa Croce or a sequence of local pistes offers a better experience for the group.

Arrival and mobility

Venice is the most common gateway; Bolzano the closest.

The final approach is by road and crosses mountain passes. Venice, Treviso, Verona, Innsbruck and Bolzano can work depending on flights, weather and combinations with other Dolomite destinations.

A private transfer is usually the most comfortable solution. Within the valley, ski buses and public transport reduce the need for a car, especially when the hotel is well positioned.
